This week we are bringing you another fabulous Dunnet based business! Peedie Prints is a small family business hand crafting gorgeous rustic frames and beautiful boxes. This is Fiona’s story….
Can you tell me a little about your business?
I make contemporary/rustic/modern style frames and now boxes to complement a wide variety of interior decors.
What inspired you to start up your business?
I have always been interested in craft work. While looking for some art work for my own walls I couldn’t find anything I really liked, so I decided to make my own. After compliments from family and friends, and requests for their own homes, I decided to start making to sell.
What makes your business special?
I can do it in my down time and my son Finlay (6), who also loves drawing and making things, sits in my craft room with me and happily uses my scraps or rejects to create his own unique ideas.
What are the highlights of being a business based in Caithness?
The local craft community is a great hub for inspiration and support.
Describe your business or product in 3 words?
Modern twist rustic.
What makes Caithness special to you?
Family, community spirit, peacefulness, and inspiring scenery.
What, to you, is the Caithness Way?
Using the scenery to inspire the colours and textures I use in my work.
What is a normal day to you?
As I still work full time a ‘normal day’ is always very hectic:
Up at 5.30 a.m., usual family household chores, dog up and out, Finlay up and out
7.30 a.m. leave for my day job
5 p.m. home, usual family duties
8 .p.m., Peedie Prints work for anything from 20 minutes to 3 hours (dependent on orders or fairs coming up).
10.30 p.m. bed , ready to do it all again next day.
Where is your favourite place in Caithness and why?
Peedie Sands Beach, with the ever-changing colours and sounds of the sea against the cliffs, and usually we have the beach to ourselves.
Does Caithness inspire your business?
The sights and colours of the landscape inspire the choices I make in the colours of the fabrics I use.
