As part of the Juniper Restoration Project with the Caithness Biodiversity Group; Hanna, Mary and the CBG have planted our first juniper cuttings out on Dunnet Head!
Two years ago we took cuttings of juniper from Dunnet hill and sent them away to Little Assynt Tree Nursery to bring on. They lived on in our distillery cold frames and have now gone back out to the hill as part of the juniper restoration project! The aim is to restore the juniper population, after it had been destroyed by hill fires many years ago.
We currently use juniper from Italy and Bulgaria and will continue to do so. The restoration project has no commercial benefit and we won’t be changing our berry source!
