Our wee distillery is named after Dunnet Bay, a fantastic sweeping arc of white sandy beach backed by rolling sand dunes. Stretching for over two miles, Dunnet Bay is fairly sheltered from the elements and offers great opportunities to paddle, swim and indulge in other beach sports. The beach is a surfer’s paradise and offers dramatic surf when the winds are high.

There are excellent wildlife spotting opportunities in the bay and the Seadrift Visitor Centre at the north end of the beach provides an interpretative guide to the wildlife which can be found in and around Dunnet Bay. The bay is a haven for many types of seabirds including curlews, eider ducks, oystercatchers and ringed plovers.

Dunnet Beach is also a great place to build sandcastles, walk your dog – you might meet our dog Mr Mackintosh, the Distillery Apprentice or hunt for shells with many razor shells and whelks to be found on the sand.

We are located just three miles from Dunnet Head. This rugged peninsula has the honour of being the most northerly point of mainland Britain. It is a wild and untamed landscape, with stunning sea cliffs and coastal grasslands which are home to fulmars, guillemots, kittiwakes, puffins and razorbills.

Peedie Sands or ‘small beach’ is located on the edge of Dunnet Bay. Park at Dwarwick Pier and follow the track up the short but steep hill which leads from the pier. If you follow the coast from the top of the hill you can’t miss it. This is a lovely secluded beach which pretty much disappears at high tide, so consulting a tide table prior to your trip is a must!

Dunnet Forest has something for everyone with short walks, long walks and all ability paths. There is a fabulous log cabin to picnic in and numerous wood carvings and sculptures to discover!
