Tasting Notes
Nose
Sweet creamy vanilla notes appear on the nose.
Palate
A delicious apple sweetness with hints of honeyed chamomile.
Finish
Light spice rounded off with lasting creamy vanilla notes.
Botanical Symphony
Holy Grass
The hero botanical in our Holy Grass Vodka! It was discovered growing on the banks of the nearby Thurso River by Robert Dick, a legendary botanist. It has a wonderful aroma and was once used on church floors to give a sweet, vanilla smell when walked over, thereby earning itself its religious moniker. Also known as Anthoxanthum nitens
Cinnamon
Cinnamon comes from the inner bark of the tree and was once traded as currency! Nowadays as a popular household spice it adds earthier, warming elements to many dishes. We distil the cinnamon in our Holy Grass Vodka to complement the sweeter vanilla and apple notes.
Highland Apples
We use Highland apple juice from Black Isle Berries near Inverness. The freshness of the apple complements the sweeter, vanilla notes of Holy Grass.
The Perfect Serve
- The gorgeous vanilla notes in Holy Grass Vodka lend themselves perfectly to a Dunnet Donkey!
- Add 50ml Holy Grass Vodka, 25ml lemon juice to a glass with ice and top with ginger ale. Garnish with mint.
- Alternatively, appreciate the flavours by sipping over ice or with apple juice.

This is a very well balanced vodka with notes of vanilla and a lively, lemony zest. Perfectly good to drink neat – in fact you would lose the wonderful, subtle taste by mixing it with tonic water or adding to a cocktail. The refillable pouch is a great idea, and so easy to use.

I first encountered Holy Grass vodka (for me) and Rock Rose gin (for my friend) at Cromlix House Hotel when a friend and I were looking for something a bit special and different, and we have enjoyed drinking them on every return trip.
My sister’s birthday was coming up, and I decided to order a bottle to be delivered to her. I accidently ordered the refill pouch instead of the bottle of Holy Grass. I then ordered the bottle. Dunnet Bay were brilliant in emailing me to clarify what I wanted to order. And instead of two separate deliveries, they combined into one delivery which my sister was very pleased to receive.
Thanks for a great vodka. Thanks for great service.

Full marks to Dunnet Bay Distillers for getting my refills to me before I travelled to the USA and after original delivery failed.
Other reviewers agree the refill pouches are such a good idea and I would add they are perfect to pack in your suitcase.

Very enjoyable drink and so handy in a pouch.

This is such a good idea, so eco friendly and perfect as we live over 600 miles from the distillery and can’t just pop in and pick up a bottle.
Well done on making such a good vodka and on coming up with this brilliant idea for refills.

My husbands favorite Vodka. The refil pouch service is fantastic. The earthenware bottle looks great in my kitchen between 2 Dunnet bay gin bottles.
Keep up the good work, I will continue to sing your praises.

A very pleasant vodka and as mentioned in another review, a nice touch to have a refillable system. I’m not sure how the distillery reuse the pouches but I’m sure they’re on the case!
I’m not a massive imbiber of gin or vodka but enjoy the taste of Dunnet’s products and will continue to use their products when needed (hic!)
My introduction was via a camping trip and the lure of the unusual non whisky distillery. If you’re in the area, definitely worth a visit.

Not only do we love this Vodka, but instead of adding to our bottle collection we are able to refill and recycle the pouch with ease, I wish all companies would do this!
